Michael Nichols "Plastered"

Michael Nichols explores contemporary applications of the ancient technique of buon fresco painting. Traditionally, artists applied this form of painting to freshly plastered surfaces such as walls and ceilings. While fresco has a long history as an architectural feature, contemporary use of the medium is barely existent due to its physical demands and technical difficulty. His hope is to engage contemporary viewers with frescoes that push the boundaries of the medium while also preserving knowledge of the technique.
